http://www.magnetreleasing.com/vhs/This is being billed as "One of the scariest movies in recent memory". Whether that's true or not, it looks REALLY fucked up and I have to see it.

Yeah I've been looking forward to this one as well. It's an anthology with 4 or 5 different directors actually contributing each set piece seperately. Definitely looks cool.....

Whoa, this looks really good. I f-ing love anthology horror, always have. Was hoping Trick R Treat was going to usher in it's return to glory but that didn't happen. Maybe if this film does well it can have that affect.

Caught this late night Saturday.
I have to see this again to formulate any strong opinion on this. Let me start by saying that.....as I was shitfaced when my buddy and I ordered this on-demand. I mean, shit faced. Not saying I don't remember anything but I definitely missed a bunch of key elements I'm sure. But from what I saw, it was pretty good. The first story was solid. I enjoyed it. I don't know if I dug the entire plot of the robbers having to watch the videos. Not sure I entirely bought/understood that but again to my point, I gotta watch it again.
In an era where a really good horror movie is released once in a blue moon seemingly, I would definitely suggest checking this out. I don't think it's got classic written all over it by any means, but a cool flick fo sho.

I too caught this over the weekend. I bought it on demand for $10, it was a 2-day rental and I think I got my money's worth. Watched it Friday night and really enjoyed it. Watched it again on Saturday night because I really wanted to see all the stories play out after knowing the endings. Then watched again on Sunday because I had a buddy over who'd been wanting to see it.
Opinions varied quite a bit between myself and the two people I watched it with. All of us liked it, without a doubt, but which story we enjoyed the most varied. After thinking it over, the only one I didn't really love was the one right in the middle. It would've been ok without the other, better shorts around it. The acting was so bad and it just had a different feel to it that didn't work for me. I think my favorite was "The Sick Thing that Happened to Emily when She was Younger," the fourth story, but I'm not quite sure. One friend preferred the first short, about a boys' night out, one preferred the second short, which was the only one with no supernatural factor. Funnily enough, my other friend liked that one the least.
There seems to be something for everyone, as long as you can deal with the shaky cam, because it's not the kind of movie that falls into that category but is obviously professionally shot. These are really people walking around with video cameras, camera glasses, a camera poking through a Halloween costume, and a webcam.
It's definitely something I'll end up owning, and while it probably won't become one of my top 5, it was definitely worth paying for.

Funny thing is, the one you hated the most (Tuesday the 17th) was actually my favorite. Not sure why, but I liked that one the most. I thought the second story (2nd Honeymoon) was the worst. But yeah, you're absolutely right. This movie has something for everyone.

Just caught this at redbox. Only one story had shotty acting and the effects werent exactly epic(im thinkin it was the third story)although i really dug the supernatural element of a killer that couldnt be seen. The rest of the film was solid my favorite was the guys night out and the halloween party.

If you're a fan of anthology horror (who isnt?) the upcoming "ABCs of Horror" should tickle your fancy. 26 different directors each contributed to the film (Have to assume each can't be more than a handful of minutes long) Sounds pretty gnarly. And there's also a sequel to VHS coming soon as well....

I've been waiting to see this for a long time. Finally made time and I'm watching it on Netflix as we speak.
Just paused after the first short with the batgirl thing. Dude! I found that to be pretty darn scary! Had me on the edge of my seat as she was eating everyone. Gosh dang!
Ok watching the next one, I'll report back later.

Dude, second one was scary too. Not as creepy as the first but the tension build up was really good.
Now the third....

Third one had a weird twisted Friday the 13th vibe. Man, I'm impressed so far. This is actually an original scary movie. Time for the 4th...

Well, just finished. I gotta say, I'm totally impressed. This movie was full of genuinely chilling moments. The found footage angle really worked well here. It enhanced the fear factor big time rather than just being a gimmick.
How did this not got a wide release in theatres? This is the best horror film I've seen in a while.
I have questions though. First I really didn't quite get what was going on in the 4th story at the end, where the guy cut the baby out of the girl. What was that all about?
Also the wrap around story. How did that connect to the VHS tapes overall?

I think with the 4th story we're to assume that Emily was some sort of portal for these alien beings. Every time she "got hurt" it was actually to cover up the fact that she had been implanted and growing an alien inside of her without knowing. I think the last time killed her, so they moved on to another woman. It's been awhile since I've seen it though. The wrap around story didn't really explain what the deal with the tapes was, it was just used as a set up to give an overall continuity, rather than just having 5 short films. Just some douchy guys in a house trying to find a tape, the house is full of tapes of disturbing stuff, and there's something else in the house killing them. I think they should've worked more on the wrap around story, but overall I really enjoyed the movie, and can't wait to see the next one.

I completely loved this movie. I was supposed to be helping a friend with her baby after she had surgery, but I was too much into this. I apologized, and she forgave me since she's a horror movie fan herself. The last sequence was my absolute favorite. Random ghost arms coming out of walls? Scary shit!! It had that whole House of the Devil feel to it. I think it was the same house, even. I, too, am excited for the sequel.
