GC already hit this up on the Facebook version of HW, so I'll handle the carry over :
Sadly, the world has to bid farewell to Ray Bradbury, the legendary science fiction and fantasy author who crafted such groundbreaking works as Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, Something Wicked This Way Comes, the Halloween Tree and The Illustrated Man. Mr. Bradbury passed away this week at the extended age of 91.
Bradbury -who it is said wrote at least 1,000 words per day every day in the span of a 70 + year career - also produced upwards of 600 short stories, a number of which were later adapted for television by the writer himself as episodes of the series The Ray Bradbury Theater.
On a personal note, let me add that for me, this is almost like experiencing the death of a family member. Ray Bradbury has had such a major influence on my own writing, my love of fiction and my world view. I've literally been reading his work since I was a kid . As I recall, I began my love affair with his work through a copy of his renowned anthology The Illustrated Man that I had checked out of the school library when I was twelve.... and I never looked back.
RIP, Ray. Thank you so much for taking us to so many strange, scary and wonderful new worlds . We'll miss you.
