This one is getting alot of hype. Looks really strange. Almost has a Sci-Fi weirdness to it. I'll most likely give it a shot....

How awful has theatrical horror been lately? I mean..... Apollo 18 was cool enough. I guess. The Thing was alright. I caught Final Destination 5 the other day. Shitshow.

I actually enjoyed FD5 quite a bit. Big improvement on the fourth film and closer in spirit to the first two. It was light years and away better than Apollo 18. THAT flick was a true shitshow. I've seen better flicks out of the Asylum.

I enjoyed the gymnist demise.....but not too much other than that. The bridge scene was pretty poorly shot, in my opinion, and the CGI was all over the joint.

Apollo 18 was what it was. I probably won't ever see it again, but I enjoyed it in the theater. It was gimmicky as fuck, but I thought it was a well made effort at the end of the day.

A Cabin in the Woods......after seeing more previews for this, I don't know what my expectations are. I still have no idea what the fuck is going on......but it all seems cool. Anyone else checking this out in a couple of weeks?

Yeah, I mentioned this as one of my must see movies in the Prometheus thread. This flick had a screening at the annual SXSW festival a few weeks back and the online horror community went through the roof with their praise. Joss Whedon has been working on this for some time and I'm eager to see the film.

Very excited for this.

I rather enjoyed both FD5 and Apollo 18.  Gore, I'm guessing you rented FD5?  I saw it in 3D and thought the opening bridge scene was awesome.  This was one movie that I think probably plays waaaaay better in 3D.  I also enjoyed the "twist" ending, which was a little obvious but still enjoyable.  I actually leaned over to my friend at one point and said "Either this is set in the late 90s or their high school hasn't done anything noteworthy in over 10 years" because there were banners at the gym stating championships and such, but they were all from the 90s.

I enjoyed Apollo 18 because I was completely prepared to hate it.  I had heard mostly godawful things about it, but on the rec of Gore and another friend I gave it a shot.  I actually thought it was a little creepy.  I also thought it did well in building tension.  I felt the same way with The Devil Inside and The Last Exorcism.  I understand that mainstream audiences want lots of jumps and blood and explosions and shit, but with Apollo and Devil even horror critics weren't having any of it.  Seems a little strange to me.

I'm with you.......  although a small bit of my anticipation regarding this film has more to do with the fact there are such a small number of horror theatrical releases that even come close to tickling my fancy these days, more so than anything content related of Cabin in the Woods. It does seem original (kinda) and interesting (kinda).....possibly scary. We'll see.

Caught a 12:45am showing of this Saturday night. Had a good time.....   now, I'm not going to lie. I was feeling good at 12:45am that night. Feeling real good actually. Went to the RedSox game Sat afternoon.....did a couple of pops. Got home early afternoon. Did a couple of pops. Not going to touch on whether or not I brought a pop or two for the ride/for in the theater. But I digress.

It was a really entertaining little flick, she was. Do I feel like I completely understood what the funk happend? No. I definitely have to see it again.....   but it was pretty nutty.

Talk about zero character development huh? Did these kids even have names?
