I don't know anyone that's actually kicked the habit aside from my dad. I don't like bringing it up to him though. I've been awfully violent today, and I was wondering if anybody else here has kicked or tried to kick the habit. If so, anybody get violent withdrawals? I broke some stuff today. That's so unlike me.

It'll pass.  I think everybody deals with it their own way.

I have a friend who's been cold turkey for 7 months now, and I honestly thought he'd NEVER quit.  I know that doesn't sound like quitting, but 7 months tells the rest of us that it worked and he's done.

So that's two you know of   Grin

The relapse rate of quitting smoking is higher than heroin. I quit for two years then started again last summer. Put a bunch of McDonalds straws in a ciggie pack and chew em. It sounds stupid and you look like an idiot but it works. Thats how my dad and I quit.

I and the guys I make movies with are all trying to quit this week. Cold turkey (one of these days I'm going to start referring to quitting outright as "hot pastrami" just to fuck with people). We're all quitting together as part of a support effort, because each of us knows how much of a bitch it is.

My best friend quit about 2 years ago after smoking for around 20 years. He said what got him through it was to imagine each cigarette that he wanted to smoke as THE ONE that would give him cancer. He aso kept a pocketful of hardcandies to pop into his mouth when he craved a cig. Best of luck to all of you who are trying to kick the habit.

The best way I've kicked the habit (as I start off an on and practically start again just to pass time) is just spend the rest of your money on ganga and just smoke that as a nonviolent substitute. PLus you cant smoke anyway because you dont have any spare change for it...

Peace

It's amazing that a drug this dangerous and addictive is legal.  I'm confused.

You could always try the methods used in Stephen King's Cat's Eye, where your significant other is locked in a glass room and electrocuted every time you take a puff. It worked for me... and my gal's hair has almost grown back ;-)

Hey, what doesn't kill her only makes her stronger... and more resistant to lower voltages.

Hey, I heard of this guy who used to smoke 4 packs a day. But after losing one of his lungs, he cut his smoking in half! (sorry, I have these totally useless bits from National Lampoon albums that I grew up listening to floating around in my head. Every once in a while, I have to let one out).

Because silly, cigarettes dont cause you to question authority, or make our white women seek sexual encounteres with negro jazzplayers. Here have some coke on me.
