Been on a cd binge lately. I'm still stuck in 1998 buying CDs and shit as opposed to going the MP3, Itunes, digital route.....  (primiarily because I've been in front of a computer for 40 hours a week, week in and week out for the better part of the last decade and can't be on a computer for more than 3 minute at a clip when I'm home) but I digress.....   I'm in my car for about an hour a day and it's got a cd player so done deal. The past few weeks I've scooped up:

311 Sound system. 1999. Incredible album from start to finish. I've been big fans of a few tracks off that album for years but the majority of the cd was new to me. Loving every second of it.

311 Grassroots. 1994. Just a raw, brilliant album on several levels. Their unique blend of hard rock, funk and rap with awesome riffs and really chill melodies makes instantly one of my all time favorites.

Incubus Make Yourself. 1999. I've always enjoyed their hits on the radio.....but for some reason just always put them in the "pop" category and never gave them a chance. This cd is sick! Really, REALLY chill album from start to finish. Love their style and look forward to indulging in some of their other work.

Onyx Backdafuckup, 1992 (I believe). Onyx is the shit. Just a group of hardcore motherfuckers who don't give a fuck. Sticky Fingaz and crew bring some of the livest, most in your face, rawest hardcore rap that hasn't been duplicated since Onyx came onto the scene. (Groups like M.O.P have tried but nothing comes close to Onyx). "Throw ya Gunz"  just makes you want to start murdering motherfuckas. hahahaha  love it.

borrowed from a friend Ice Cube's Raw Footage album from a couple of years ago. Fucking sucks. I'm a die hard Cube fan going back to his work in NWA to his solo stuff in the early 90s like Predator. He's way past his prime. Hang it up, man..... bump some Westside Connection and keep making your kiddy movies. You WERE the man.....  but enough's enough.

I buy alot of cd's, but I'm old.  I don't think many people do nowadays.  I have this small town album store where I can custom order all my metal.  Very cool, very local.

I have this problem of where to store all the damn cd cases.  I've got a trash bag in the trunk of my car that's full of them.  I really only listen to cd's in my car, although I'll test drive the new ones on my Bose's in the living room.

The last one I picked up was the new Crowbar.  I haven't fully digested it, but it seems awesome at first inspection.  No surprises.  It's Crowbar.

Picked up a Charred Walls of the Damned album, their only one at this point.  If you are a fan of the Ripper, Death, or metal in general, you will enjoy this.  It's a little on the short side, at around 35 minutes I believe.  It really sounds nothing like Death, but it has a couple dudes who used to play in it (Christie and Digiorgio).  Good shit.

I feel you with the cases. Got them up the arse myself. I recently just tossed away a bunch of them. There's only a select few I'd care to hang onto which now are behind my stereo, on top of my fridge.

I'm very old school when it comes to music mediums. I never have and never will own an ipod, ipad or any other such item. I play CD's (and even cassettes to some degree) . I don't go in for headphones. Never liked the feel of them. In my estimation, there's only one way to listen to music..on disc, in a machine with the speakers rocking loud enough so someone can conceivably complain depending upon the hour.

In terms of listening choices, I actually just revisited Alice Coopers last album , 2008 's excellent  Along Came a Spider, a solid concept piece about a serial killer called the Spider (he wraps his victims in silk and removes a leg from each of them) who falls in love with his latest chosen victim .

Looking forward to this summer when Cooper releases his next album..Welcome 2 My Nightmare..the sequel to his watershed 70's album Welcome to My Nightmare. All of the  members of the original Alice Cooper Band (except Glen Buxton, who passed away in 1997) that were featured  on the original record are returning for the sequel, which will be followed by a tour. I'm really hoping they come to South Fla.

There's a big Alice Cooper box set coming out Splat, if that's the kind of thing you are into.  Frankly, I only have/had one box set and it was the Misfits coffin box that came out like 20 years ago.  I got it while I was in college, which is even more impressive since I was broke as shit and the thing was like $70.  No idea where it's at now, but it ruled.  I didn't own the Live Shit, Binge, and Purge Metallica box set, but I might as well have I rocked it so much.

I haven't listened to much 311, but I really liked the popular ones; Transistor, Beautifule Disaster, Amber.  Not really my style of music, but those tunes were good.

Love Alice Cooper.

311 is my favorite shit right now......   If you can get your hands on a copy of their greatest hits, I guarantee it won't disappoint. Heavy at times, melow at times..... psychedelic thoughout.....    just perfect tunes if you ask me.

I enjoy listening to a cd but I like being able to swap album or artists without doing too much digging. Of course, my Ipod and my GPS were lifted out of my car (they missed my checkbook, bah-derrrrrr) so I have no choice but to jam out to the discs. Now my player is having slow-down issues so anything thrashy and quick sounds, well, moderate. Can't have that.

I just learned of the band Van Canto.  They're a German A Capella Ensemble Metal Group.  You read that correctly.  They only instrument they use is drums.  They're incredible!

On the subject of music and that which is awesome, I recently found out that -thanks to a random drawing in an online contest I had entered a month or so back- I have won a free copy of Alice Cooper's latest CD, the recently released Welcome 2 My Nightmare ( aka Welcome to my Nightmare  II). Bloody well stoked about that one. Cooper is still my all time favorite rocker and I've heard from a few sources already that the album is excellent. I'll provide my own review here once I give it a listen in its entirety.

On amazon for 3 bucks I just bought an Easy E cd. It's the "Dre diss" disc. Dr. Dre is one my all time favorite musicans, but I can still bang with Easy post NWA.

shit just makes me want to slap on some baggy khakis, red bandanna, and sip on my 4-0 of Olde English while I smoke motherfuckas with my 9.

You can say whatever you want about your preferred genre of music, but you gotta respect Easy E. He rappped about some serious shit, and it was no front. He was literally a pimp. Literally sold crack. He wasn't bullshitt'n at all. And if he were alive, I'm sure he'd be bangin the same shit..... RIP.

Bought and listened to Van Halen's new disc A Different Kind of Truth, which features the return of original front man David Lee Roth and has Eddie's son Wolfgang Van Halen taking over bassist duties from Michael Anthony.

A lot of old school rockers try for late entry comebacks  and , well, the results can be embarrassing. You know it and I know it. The Rolling Stones  should have given it up a decade ago, the G&R album Chinese Demcoracy is G&R in name only despite Axel's involvement and Boston made fans wait over decade for an album that was considered one of their worst .  The best you can do when you hear that  a standard-setting group like Van Halen ( who have had more than their share of downs in the past decade or so, including a failed reinvention with a new lead singer on t he critic and consumer panned album Van Halen III, the departure of Michael Anthony to join Sammy Hagar in Chickenfoot and being dropped by their record label) is trying to recapture that original magic is hold your breath and pray that it doesn't turn out to be a colossal mistake.

Well kiss those fears goodbye, because your friendly neighborhood Splatterscribe is here to tell ya',  the new album completely rocks. In fact, I'd say ADKOT is  easily their best effort since Fair warning, if not Van Halen II. I certainly think it's harder hitting and musically more accomplished than Diver Down 1984 or anything form the Hagar era (and keep in mind, I'm not a Hagar hater. as it happens, I'm  a huge fan of 5150 and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge).

If you're one of those fans who had the opportunity to  hear  the first single "Tattoo" when it was released prior to the album bowing nationwide and didn't necessarily fall in love with the song, , don't worry. The rest of the album is pure, unabashed metal -centric Van Halen  party rock that taps directly into the vibe of first six albums.   Literally- seven of the thirteen tracks are re-recordings of unreleased demos the band originally cut in the 1970's when they were preparing their debut effort and the other six songs were all freshly conceived with the sensibility of those five tunes in mind, so it all flows naturally, picking up as if twenty eight years haven't passed.

The boys are back and better than ever.
