Picked up a couple of CDs this weekend. Grabbed Pantera's "Far beyond Driven"  (I think that's what it is anyways)   used to have it as a little kid way back when, cd kicks fucking arse though. Hard.
Also scooped up 311 Soundsystem. Great album. Alot of awesome tunes.

Far Beyond Driven is massively badass.

I picked up the Charred Walls of the Damned last week.  It's kinda a super-group with some dudes from Death, Tim Owens and a metal producer.  Good shit, though way too short at 35 minutes.

I watched Night of the Demon yesterday while working off a hangover.  Not Night of the Demons, this is a totally different movie.  I've had it for about half a year and hadn't had a chance to watch it.  Good flick.  Old as hell, pretty cheesy in many places, but I'll be damned if I didn't end up liking it.  It's got that early 80's nostalgia, not unlike Just Before Dawn and Screams of a Winter Night.  Very gory.  It was on the Video Nasties list I believe.  That was probably due to a guy getting his johnson tore off.  Weird scene.  Pretty risque for early 80's late 70's non-Italian horror.

Eurotrip might be the worst movie I've ever wasted money to see in the theaters.....ever. Fucking worst attempt at a comedy I've ever witnessed probably. Pisspoor from start to finish.

This is  how I felt about Napoleon Dynamite. Viewing that movie was like watching a really bad traffic accident. I couldn't tear my eyes away, yet simultaneously I wanted to commit ritual suicide for the entire running time.. How in the hell that movie became such a pop phenomenon is beyond my comprehension.

Eurotrip's not that bad.  I personally LOVE Napoleon Dynamite!  And Splat, Blockbuster is up for sale the price...a measly $290 million.  That's pennies on the dollar compared to what they were once worth.

Recently rewatched Jaws. I'm fairly certain that flick is even better now than when I first saw it back in the late seventies. The shot of the shark racing up through the water to snatch the guy in the red rowboat just before it severs his leg is the definition of scary. I still get the willies watching that scene. I mean really, that's pretty much the ultimate "you're absolutely screwed and there's nothing you can do about it" moment.

Hard to believe it's been thirty one years since that movie swam into theatres. Absolute masterpiece.

Jaws came out in 1975.  That would make it 36 years old.  Tongue

Watched Zombies of Mass Destruction.  Loved it!  A lot of critics are saying that the underlying messages were a little too hammered in.  That's the whole point, dopes.  It wasn't supposed to be thinly veiled criticism of our society.  The messages were so over the top on purpose.  That's why it was so funny.  The dude wasn't trying to make people think, he was trying to make em laugh.  Highly recommended.

Also caught The Last Exorcism again.  Enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

Not a DVD, but I saw Battle: Los Angeles in the theater last night.  It was absolutely amazing.  I like to think of it as Black Hawk Down freebasing with aliens.  Go see this movie as soon as you can.

Since it's not a horror movie - it's strictly sci-fi, but it's a hardcore WAR movie...You can read my review here.

I finally saw Dead Girl a couple nights ago.  It was really good.  Problem when you have a "trend" is that 95% of what gets done is repetitive, semi-brain dead (duh dum, bum) crap.  This wasn't.  It was the sort of offbeat thing you watch little indie horror films for.  Anyhoo, I highly recommend.

GC, that's hilarious. I watched Battle: Los Angeles with the wifey last night & as soon as we got in the car to leave the theater, I said "That was like Black Hawk Down on steroids with aliens!" And I totally agree with the above assessment of Deadgirl. It's sad that some of the best most original horror coming out nowadays doesn't come anywhere close to a theater for mass consumption. THen again, considering the subject matter, I guess this one wouldn't.

The Mr. and I saw it today - better than I thought it would be.  There were a couple of real screamer-bad lines, though. "None of that matters now" after a super long schmaltzy speech comes to mind. Definitely needed less dialogue, more focus on the running around fighting. I guess you could say that about Black Hawk Down, too, though.

I also saw a little gem [/sarcasm] called Night of the Dead.  Really, really nearly unwatchable super-low-budget digital handicam flick.  That being said, the dialogue was not bad.  I'd be going "really?" at some schlock, and then I'd think about the actual lines and realize they weren't bad at all - it was jsut that, in the context of this movie, it sucked.  The acting wasn't that bad, and I quite appreciated the uber-low budget solutions they had to making creep reanimated dead flesh. And they had a nice little Dead & Burried ending thingamabobber. But - still, really bad.  Just didn't work.

At all.

Well,to their credit they made their movie, budget notwithstanding, so God love 'em for that.

Caught the majority of The Host the other night. I think I passed out for the night with like 15-20 minutes left.

Pretty cool creature this badboy was. That first sequence when it comes out of the water is nothing short of brilliant. Had to watch it a couple of times cuz it was that badass. Unfortuntely the movie got incredibly boring. It was really story driven which no me gusta when talking about a monster flick.

I still recommend this for the sight of the creature alone. You can watch this on dvd either subtitled or dubbed. I watched it dubbed and it was pretty smooth.
