I like these threads.

I've been on a big Robert Rodriguez trip lately. I blame Sin City. I saw it a while back and loved it. I bought it recently along with Planet Terror and From Dusk Till Dawn. I want to see more of what this guy has to offer.

Is Desperado any good?

Aside from a really hot Salma Hayek scene, I didn't like it.  It consisted primarily of alcohol and bullets with no plot.  The key is to watch El Mariachi first.

I liked Desperado. It probably would help to see El Mariachi first, but I've never seen that one. It's not vital for understanding Desperado. I have heard El Mariachi is the better movie, though.

rented
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring - beautiful.
The Ruins - enjoyed it more than I thought I would.  I'm glad I went in not knowing anything about it at all, because if I had caught the premise I would have laughed it right off.
Drillbit Taylor - funnier than I was led to believe.  Better writing (plot-wise) would have helped it though.

bought
Batman Begins
Unbreakable

btw I remember El Mariache being better (not a fan of Desperado to begin with though).  IIRC Desperado is like Evil Dead 2 in that it is both a remake and a sequel at the same time.

Bought the dimension extreme feature, Broken. Nothing ground breaking. Simple plot...  dude kidnaps a woman and her daughter. Keeps them out in the woods and tortures them. Literally 3 characters in the entire flick. Gore was pretty brutal. Pretty forgetable though.

Went and saw The Dark Knight. Fuckin horrendous. Ledgers performance as joker though was one of the best performances I've seen in a long ass time. Brilliant physical acting and creepy as hell. He was the only reason why I bothered to see it....   other then him, it's damn near 3 hours of crap.

I agree with you Rodriguez has put out some quality flicks, thing I seem to like about him the most is that he wears all the hats in the process, that being that he writes, directs, is the filmographer and even scores the music.

Anyway I just rented Strange Days,  heres where anEx-cop Lenny Nero played by Ralph Fiennes is a pusher of potent -- and illegal -- virtual-reality clips, peddling sex, murder and violence to the masses in quasi-futuristic Los Angeles. But when a high-profile murder shows up in his collection, Lenny is snared in a fast-paced manhunt. With the help of his friend Mace Mason , he stays ahead of danger and tries to protect an old flame.
It was a pretty good flick and Ralph Fiennes carries the film well. Juliette Lewis also plays a good supporting role and showcases her singing talents again in it as she did in Natural Born Killers. It actually turned me on to her band Juliette and the Licks, which is pretty good.

The Ruins: I don't really understand some of the gripes made about this flick, I enjoyed it as much as The Descent if not more.

AvP Requim: Much better than the first, violence level was way up compared to the last one. Little more interesting characters. Though not much was elaborated on the hybrid. So really all it became was a Xeno with an attitude.

He wrote a book.  It's called Rebel without a Crew: Or How a 23-Year-Old Filmmaker With $7000 Became a Hollywood Player.

Yeah, just saw "The Ruins" based on your guys's opinions. It was good, not great, but good. I like that it was different and pretty original. I found myself moderately entertained.

Not to derail, I know we have some comic fans here, I saw we had the Ultimate Avengers movies on sale at work. With the superhero spirit thing going on I almost considered getting them.

Is this something I'd be interested in spending 15$ on? I expect something atleast on par with the original X-men series. I don't want some Justice Friends morale lesson stuff.

Ultimate Avengers is pretty cool.  I heard that the second one is kind of lame though.

rented
War Dance - awesome
Stop Loss - meh.  Not a good follow up to War Dance since thier problems seemed petty compared to those of northern Ugandans.  Still worth a rent though.
Deadliest Catch s3 v1 - always awesome

bought
Robot Chicken Star Wars special.

Not a purchase or rental, but I've had 1408 for a while now and I just watched it for the first time.  It was good, but I would have liked it to be a bit scarier.
