Red Sonja - bad.  does not deserve to be in the Conan universe.

one of these days I'm going to get back to renting and talking about horror

Of course Red Sonja was bad.  Did you actually expect anything different?

I was hoping it would be more about Conan and Arnold would steal the show, like my friend said.  Or at least have an epic battle you could talk about (The Destroyer was bad, but at least he tore the horn off a giant demon-god with his bare hands in the end).  But the action was just boring.  If there's nothing else to redeme it, then that's that.

Did you notice that Wilt Chamberlain was responsible for guarding a girl's VIRGINITY?  He probably looked at her and took it!

Well I had "Welcome to Spring Break" which I went to watch and review Saturday but the dang DVD didn't work.
So all I have now is "Them" (Ils)  The synopsis:

"Co-writers and directors David Moreau and Xavier Palaud's French-language horror picture Them take audiences on a ride of sheer terror as a couple fight for their life when an assault on their home turns deadly. The story opens with the homicide of two Romanians -- a woman and her young daughter -- who crash their car along a rural road and are promptly butchered by a shadowy figure. Meanwhile, in Bucharest, schoolteacher Clémentine (Olivia Bonamy) climbs into her car and drives to the isolated mansion that she inhabits with partner Lucas (Michaël Cohen), not far from the site of the murders. Soon the couple overhears someone stealing their car, but a call to the police accomplishes little. The lovers gradually realize that an outsider is attempting to break into the house with homicidal intent. Thus begins a nasty, brutal battle of wills that can only end in the death of the victims or the assailants. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide"

I think the next one in my queue is "Torso"

Queen, I think you'll really like THEM. No blood at all.....but excellent suspense. A couple of pretty creepy shots/sequences.... overall I thought it was a very quality effort. Very solid character development for the first act and once the intruders show up, it's on till the credits roll.....  I did however, sucessfully guess the ending (kind of) which was a bit of a letdown but regardless it's nothing forgettable, thats for sure. Interested to see your thoughts when you get the chance to catch it....

If Welcome to Spring Break is the one I think it is - the slasher movie with the psycho in the motorcycle gear- you're not missing much.

In deference to Them- isn't that the film which was the basis for the recent American release The Strangers?

Kind of. Similar story line but it's also pretty close to another French film INSIDE. THEM definately is very similar (in regards to story line at least) but definately two very different films with very different vibes. Enjoyed all three actually....

I didn't think I would be but an 80's slasher is still better than most things I can rent today.

There was a lot of talk about The Strangers being based on Them but apparently it wasn't.

Speaking of The Strangers, the sequel is underway as we speak. The makers actually plan on making a series with 5 or 6 installments similar to the Saw franchise.

I'm gonna shock everybody right now, but I watched The Evil Dead for the FIRST TIME last night.  I submitted a review too.

It was either The Evil Dead or 30 Days of Night.  30DoN is On Demand and The Evil Dead has been DVR'd since 6/12.

I almost envy you. But then I think about the fact you're a middle aged man (no offense) who fancies himself a horror fiend.....   were you able to sleep at night or look at yourself in the mirror knowing you have never witnessed the hour and a half of brilliance and utter cinema delight that comes with watching The Evil Dead?Huh!!!!!!   Grin Grin  Obviously just kidding man, glad you finally got the chance. If you're like me, some of the images will not soon leave your mind for the upcoming days......

Watched 1408 (I'll give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars), Catacombs (2 out of 5, maybe another .5 for the ending), and Doomsday (3.75 out of 5). I have started working at the Hollywood again that I used to work for (for 5 and a half years), so I will be stepping up my movie viewing. I doubt I'll review any, though. I really don't enjoy writing reviews. (I've pm'd The Horrorist to remove my reviewer status). I prefer just leaving 1 sentence ratings and discussing in the forums.

To be honest I was really, really tired when I was watching it.  It was creepy at times, but it wasn't creepy enough to keep me up.  In fact, I fell asleep right before the ending and had to fast-forward through the entire movie just to watch the ending!  For me to not be able to sleep after watching a horror movie, it's got to be a REALLY scary movie.

The primary reason that I watched it was because I told FatalTragedy that I would try my hardest to watch it on Monday.  Now he can't make fun of me for not seeing it.  Smiley

I rented it and thought the same thing.  After a second viewing I apreciated it for what it is.  It's completely hysterical!
