Talk about pitch perfect timing:
So slip my 25th anniversary edition DVD of JAWS into the DVD player and the damned thing is just all kinds of corrupted. A quick perusal of the disc revealed that at some point it had become hopelessly scratched and unplayable (not sure when the hell that happened).
Cut to the following morning (Friday morning) and I happen to be in Wal-Mart picking up some needed groceries for the week. As I'm passing by the discount DVD bin, what do I notice in the pile but several copies of the same edition of the JAWS DVD that I need to  replace. Five bucks and one drive home later, I'm watching one of my all time favorites in it's pristine, widescreen glory again.

Yeah,I love it when life tosses some luck my way.  Smiley

Thats friggin sweet dude.

Finally watched ICHI THE KILLER.  God that was boring.

Boring? ICHI?Huh? Blasphemy! Besides from it being slow paced (in your opinion) you didnt enjoy any of it? It's arguably one of the most violent movies ever. Without a doubt the best throat slash in the history of cinema.

SPOILERISH!!!!

Actually I didn't say I thought it was slow paced in my post.
I thought the whole story was boring.
Some of the violence I enjoyed, the nipple scene was EXTREMELY cringe-worthy.  I didn't really think it was that violent, most of what you saw was after the fact.  Ichi was annoying as hell.  I liked Kakihara though.  Liked the scene where he took the pins out of his face when the guy was trying to beat him up.  The whole twisted Batman vibe made me laugh.

I dunno.  I like Asian cinema, I like other Miike films, and I don't mind long movies.  This one just didn't do anything for me.  Maybe I was expecting too much, had built it up in my mind.

Picked up The Godfather, Clockstoppers, and Clash of the Titans from the local library and burned them all.

Clash of the Titans is equally as important as The Godfather.

Clash of the Titans didn't stand the test of time for me, sadly.  I loved that movie as a kid and even had all the action figures.

I MUST get Clash of the Titans for my kid.  I admit I still rather enjoy parts of it, too.  Blood turning into giant scorpions - that always stuck with me.  2nd worst Medusa in movie history, IMHO (the worst being in that Hammer thing about the Gorgon).

Also downloaded the remake of Last House on the Left.

On Demand gave Autopsy a shot. Made it 35 minutes into it before hitting the STOP button in a pissed off fashion.

Then gave The Cottage a shot. Horror comedy....the first half hour is really slow but is really funny. I was very surprised how much I laughed. Maybe it's the Brit accents that always gets me.... but I was in and out for the last hour or so of the movie. Saw some cool stuff including one creepy ass freak ala Wrong Turn or Hills Have Eyes.

and of course.....saw H2, 11am on a Friday....beautiful.

My plans for seeing Sorority Row fell through, so I ended up making it a Blockbuster night and playing catch up with some of the titles I had missed earlier. Saw Valkyrie and Gran Torino at long last. Thought both were excellent.

Then I discovered Blockbuster has their own discount movie bin, with brand new DVD's for what comes to $4.25 after tax. Finally purchased Scorcese's Raging Bull, which was the standout title in the bin.

I watched Snoopy, Come Home not too long ago for the first time in years.  Dude, I had no idea that movie was so depressing!

Am I excited?

Yes, yes I am.

Me too!  That's an awesome flick.  I haven't been able to convince myself to fork over $16 for it yet, but someday...

GC, what do you think of Zombie Diaries?  I haven't seen it.
