Watched Cannibal Ferox. I had been a big fan of Cannibal Holocaust and heard this was a similar title but it doesn't come close.

I like these threads.

I've been on a big Robert Rodriguez trip lately. I blame Sin City. I saw it a while back and loved it. I bought it recently along with Planet Terror and From Dusk Till Dawn. I want to see more of what this guy has to offer.

Is Desperado any good?

I agree with you Rodriguez has put out some quality flicks, thing I seem to like about him the most is that he wears all the hats in the process, that being that he writes, directs, is the filmographer and even scores the music.

Anyway I just rented Strange Days,  heres where anEx-cop Lenny Nero played by Ralph Fiennes is a pusher of potent -- and illegal -- virtual-reality clips, peddling sex, murder and violence to the masses in quasi-futuristic Los Angeles. But when a high-profile murder shows up in his collection, Lenny is snared in a fast-paced manhunt. With the help of his friend Mace Mason , he stays ahead of danger and tries to protect an old flame.
It was a pretty good flick and Ralph Fiennes carries the film well. Juliette Lewis also plays a good supporting role and showcases her singing talents again in it as she did in Natural Born Killers. It actually turned me on to her band Juliette and the Licks, which is pretty good.

I really liked Strange Days, as well. Very underestimated movie, IMHO. I've never liked Juliette Lewis nor understood her appeal, though. Skankiest actress in Hollywood if you ask me. When she trys to act sexy in any role, it sends shivvers down my spine (and not the good kind). It's kinda like being hit on by least attrractive woman in the bar, who really seems to think she's hot.

Same here. For several years I would see Lewis in a film and wonder to myself exactly why in the hell people kept casting her. Then I watched an in depth interview with her and I discovered that for the bulk of her career, she was hardcore drug addict and was often high as a kite on set. Right about the time she got clean was when I noticed that I was enjoying her performances more. In deference to Strange Days(which I loved. Sucks that it bombed at the box office, but what else is new?)  I think the vibe you're addressing was in fact the point of the character to begin with, PK. She was seedy and sleazy and Lenny had to learn-among other lessons- that she was ultimately self serving trash.

She had the same type of role in Natural Born Killers, though her character recieved the celebrity status that many serial killers in reality recieve. She was ultimatly an abused girl by the guy that got her away from her abusive environment.
BTW what did either of you think of her singing ability in Strange Days

I'll agree with the thoughts on Juliette Lewis.  Her roles, even if they're main roles, are just filler.  I don't think she's entirely pretty or a great actress.  She did doa good job in From Dusk Till Dawn.  That's the only credit I'll give her.

Again, not a rental/purchase, but I caught Balls of Fury on Cinemax last Saturday.  It was hysterical!  There are few movies that can have me laughing out loud, and this movie had me doing just that within the first half hour.

I have been renting the 2007 Horrorfest movies because I enjoyed the last bunch of em’. But fuck me! That damn Crazy Eights movie was the worst piece of shit I have ever had the displeasure of seeing. That bullshit should come with a disclaimer.

What have you thought of the others?  I keep almost renting them, then putting them back for something else.  I've heard they don't compare to last year's, but not from anyone on this site.

I rented:

Crazy Love--documentary about a guy who shot his fiance in the face, then years later when he got out of jail they married.  I haven't watched it yet, but it sounds crazy interesting.

Uzumaki--again.  I am so in love with this movie.  If anyone has any idea where I can purchase a copy, please let me know.  I watched it with a friend and she said, "Lindsay, the movies you like are weird."

Shutter (2008)--I watched about half of it, then turned it off.  Bleh.  The kid from The Mighty Ducks has made poor choices.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly--If you like incredibly emotional movies, this is for you.  If you're not curious what people who are completely paralyzed think about, don't watch it, because that's what the movie is about.  Really good, just really sad.

TraumaMama, so far I have only seen Tooth and Nail and Crazy Eights. And I must say, so far so suck ass. Tooth and Nail was OK but not nearly as clever or original as any of the previous Horrorfest films. I currently have The Deaths of Dr.Ian Stone which I have not watched yet but it looks kinda promising and I will let you know if it's worth a watch. Eventhough this batch of films doesn't seem as entertaining as the previous ones, I will watch them all. I'm sure at least two of them have gotta be good right?

Glad to see you made it to the new forums!!

I saw a copy of this for sale at a local FYE last week. It was like 30 bucks though. I've been contemplating seeing it for a while. I believe a reviewer on the old site described it as the weirdest movie he's ever seen. I'll def give it a shot next time I get....

Thanks, B!  And yep, I made it.  I'll stay away from those two Horrorfest movies, I'd heard they were the worst anyway.

I might have put this on the old forum, but either way

RENT THE SIGNAL!!!!!

For real, it is crazy.  You may not love it, I can't begin to presume everyone's taste, but I highly doubt you will be disappointed with the rental.  It's got some gore, it's got some humor, it's got some serious tension.  Kind of like a trippier version of SK's Cell.  I'm going to have to rent it again to write a review, because the first time I was too enthralled and couldn't look at it critically.  Rent it.

rented:
Apollo 13 - to celebrate NASA's 50th birthday
Backwoods - not bad!  You guys might like it.  Gary Oldman holding a shotgun on the cover was the only reason I rented it.

haven't watched:
John Adams v1
Orphanage
Lost Boys II - Boyz in the Hood
Don't Go in the Woods Alone - might just take this one back.  It's late and I heard it's one of the worst ever.

I have a strange desire to see that Lost Boys sequel, I can't explain it.

I've got Long Island Cannibal Massacre. Synopsis....

"The sophomore outing from cult filmmaker Nathan Schiff, Long Island Cannibal Massacre finds star John Smihula once again playing Inspector James Cameron, a role he originated in Schiff's debut, Weasels Rip My Flesh. This time around, Cameron is investigating several murders that have been carried out in a grizzly fashion. Eventually, the trail of carnage leads him to a group of cannibalistic lepers who rely on human flesh for sustenance. Led by their powerful king (Winston B. Anderson III), the lepers refuse to go down without a bloody battle."

Queenie, I don't know which is worse; the movie described above or the image the last line, "the lepers refuse to GO DOWN without a bloody battle", left in my mind. Yikes!!
