It looks like shite.  "Say it...vampire." Oh heaven's me.  Vampires?? How bold!

My thoughts exactly. Vampire! *clutching pearls*

I read the first book to see what all the fuss was about and hated it.  The girl is nothing but a spineless bratty twit whose whole existance is wrapped up in this vampire to the complete exclusion of any family, friends or her own well being.  Oh but it's so romantic!  We are in love!  Gag.

Oh and married and pregnant by the forth book while still in high school?  Now there's something to aspire to.

I guess I'm defending this even though I'll probably never see it on my wife's behalf. She loved the books, and can't wait for the movie. I hold my wife's taste in high esteem, and although it doesn't interest me I know there's something to it to have captured her imagination. She read all the books, and was every bit as disappointed when they ended (or did they?) as she was when the Harry Potter books ended (something I didn't think possible). Like horror, this film and the books belong to a specific, different genre. My wife doesn't appreciate horror on the level I do, but she doesn't knock it. I don't appreciate Twilight on the level she does, but I don't knock it.

Actually, she has graduated high school and is married when she becomes is pregnant. They don't have sex until AFTER they get married. Stephanie Meyer is Mormon, and regardless of what you think about that religion, her faith was the reason she kept it very clean. The most the lovers do in the books pre-marraige is kiss. BQueen, remember being 17? Your whole world revolves around the person you're in love with. That's why they say you never forget your first love. Family and friends lose importance in the face of the excitement of first love. It may not say alot about the self-esteem of an adult to do this, but for a 17 year old it's extremely normal. I know it was for me. Funny, being put in a position to defend a film I had no interest in seeing has made me want to see it. The world needs a little a little spot in it for innocent romance.

This article says it better than I ever could.

PK I realize not everyone is going to think the same way I do.  It's just my opinion, I'm not trying to slam anyone personally who likes the series.

My gal has read at least a few of the novels, which means that I will probably wind up seeing this movie with her at some point. Ohhh, the things we do for love.

Well, it's official. I asked her what she wanted to do for her upcoming birthday next week & the first thing she mentioned was going to see Twilight. Pray for me.

True that B. My BF would piss and moan if I wanted to go see this movie. Luckily for him, I'm not into this retarded crap. I mean, how the hell does a vampire knock someone up? Isn't it undead?

Apparently in the Anita Blake Series, Vampires can have offspring as well, but I'm not that far in the series.  I've only read Guilty Pleasures and thought it was fantastic.  I have the whole series in PDF format but have no time to read it right now.

I'm personally against undead offspring (unless you count the zombie baby in the DotD remake.)

I read quite a bit of urban fantasy and usually the only time a vamps sperm is active is if the vamp is freshly made, say three days old.

Of course, it's all subjective you know??

Oh and J?  If you're going to go see it you KNOW you have to review it.  Wink

Aww man! That would mean I would have to like... pay attention and stuff. I can't promise I'll try, but I'll try to try. Where's our former HW member & vampire extraordinaire, Julie, when you need her. She'd watch this movie AND take it seriously! Two things Lord J is going to have trouble combining.
