I watched the remake of I Spit on Your Grave this past weekend. I have to say it was entertaining, but uneven. It was a little hard to believe that the young woman at the beginning of the movie could evolve (or devolve) into the ass-kicking, revenge-seeking ut if you suspend that bit of disbelief, it's not a bad movie. Makes me want to see the original more than I ever really wanted to prior to watching it.

I just watched this Sunday. Definitely had some creepy moments and some memorable scary images. I'm not sure if the cheese was intentional or not, though. Either way, I enjoyed it.

I saw this last night. I thought it was a very good film. I agree with TM, a bit of E.T., The Goonies, Cloverfield, and I'd add a bit of Close Encounters to the mix. Good call LJ. I loved the kids' movie during the credits. Got ripped off with the whole Imax experience, but good flick all the same.

Just had a Neil Marshall double-header with Dog Soldiers and The Descent. I love both of those flicks! Has anyone seen The Decent 2? Any good? I've been slacking on my horror watching lately. I'm working on fixing that this summer.
Hey PK! I actually just watched The Descent 2 a few weeks ago. I didn't really want to watch it because I figured it was some cheap knock off, and I hadn't heard much about it. While it wasn't great, I was pleasantly surprised. It's not directed by Marshall, so there's the bad news. However, it is a direct sequel, taking place pretty soon after the end of the first one. The main girl is in it (Sarah? Too lazy to look it up) so you'll have to go by the US theatrical ending. I wonder how Brits feel when they see a movie where the girl is all but dead at the end, then a sequel comes out like that never happened. Anyway, it's definitely missing something that the first one had, but in general it exceeded my expectations. I say it's definitely worth a rental, not so much a buy. I'll be sure to add it to my Netflix cue. Thanks!

Quick recap. Since my senior year of high school in 2002, this is what I've seen unfold.
Patriots SuperBowl victory, last second FG. After the snowgame last second FG, mind you. Patriots SuperBowl victory 2 years later. Great game against Carolina. Patriots SuperBowl victory the very next year. Dominance. RedSox World Series victory same year. First time in 86 years. First time anyone has ever been down 0-3 and won 4 straight to win the series (ALCS vs NY) I'll quote a top ESPN personality "This world championship was the most important championship title in the history of organized sports" RedSox World Series victory a few years later. Wire to wire best team in baseball, culminating in a sweep of the Rockies. Boston Celtics NBA Championship the next year. Unbelievable run, won it at home versus our biggest rival, one of the best rivalies in sports..... just beautiful.
Boston Bruins Stanley Cup victory a couple of years later. 3 game 7s and only the 2nd time a road team has won a game 7 Finals, in all of major sports in the past 3 decades or so.
....that don't include a perfect regular season, a game 7 loss in the finals and a game 7 loss in the ALCS.
You can go generations, coast to coast and never see the above happen again. Ever. Fact.
Suck it.
You are indeed one lucky bastard! I'll probably never see a run of titles like that for my favorite teams in my lifetime. Not to mention that my faves are spread around and not all from one city (Reds, Panthers, Bobcats, Aston Villa, 'Bama, Duke). Congrats!

Desperado is a fun movie. Make sure you check out El Mariachi, as well. It's technically the first in the Desperado series, though you don't need to see El Mariachi first to understand Desperado. Long live big guns in guitar cases!!!

It's been awhile...thought I'd weigh in on the thread. Shaun of the Dead is brilliant. The perfect comedy AND a fantastic zombie film at the same time. Dawn of the Dead (2004) is my favorite zombie movie, and I hate to say I absolutely hate Savini's remake of NOTLD. Romero's work as a whole is still my all-time favorite zombie chronicles. Oh yeah, and 28 Days Later is my favorite "zombie-like" movie. I'm very much looking forward to the tv series based on the comic "The Walking Dead" that begins this fall/winter on AMC, btw.

For the most part, I don't think there are many remakes that add something different to the story and/or elaborate on it's telling enough to warrant having been made. A few that come to mind that I believe did do this, however, are Dawn of the Dead, The Thing, The Ring, and The Grudge. The last two if only for bringing the story to American audiences. Along the same lines, I would add Quarantine.

Not to change the subject, but I finally saw Avatar today. Even with all the hype and build-up, the movie blew me away. Outstanding storytelling and groundbreaking effects. I admit I was a bit skeptical, but I absolutely loved it. Now back to regularly scheduled program...
I also saw it. It was phenomenal. I have to watch it again. And again. And again. I'd rather nail my dick to a burning building. Whatever floats your boat, man.

Props to my Crimson Tide for winning the National Championship last night. To those that contend things would have been different had Colt McCoy played the entire game, I just want to say, "tough shit".
