It's a crazy country. So we got this guy who's the greatest swimmer on earth but he's a little too into the partying. That's who he is. Should a kid not be able to look up to an athelete because of something like this? I don't think many real people would qualify to be role models if there were no secrets. As adults our lives are almost always rated R, little kids aren't supposed to know about everything we do. Here's a guy who's great at something, shouldn't that be enough? It's not like he's torturing dogs or being accused of raping groupies.
In America our standards always seem to be ridiculously high and depressingly low. I'd like to point out that our last president had DUI's and a drug history. Nobody took away his endorsements. I think we all need to grow up a little.

As of last week you can now click the names of the authors of a review and be taken to a page of links to all their reviews. I plan to expand on that before long and turn them into profile pages as well. I want to get a couple hundred more reviews up before I work on something else on the side, but I'll be needing some suggestions of just what a profile page on HW really should contain. I was thinking a little blurb, maybe a photo. Links to homepages, etc. Then we'll have a credits page as well, listing all contributors. It'll be fun, I think.
Anyway, take notes of any good ideas you have.

Nope, but I will admit that I'm a big liar. Right after saying I wasn't fucking with anything else, I spent the whole afternoon doing just that, and much to my joy... THE RECENT POSTS SECTIONS ARE BACK!
This is step one to mixing the forums and the reviews back together. It's all good. (unless I fuck it all up, which is very likely.)

Sorry folks, the forums were down for several days because I was trying to upgrade a couple things about them, and changed a switch that couldn't be changed. Then I didn't notice the forums themselves didn't work. Sorry. I'm not fucking with anything else, these damn things are too delicate!

General Category / Scrawled in Blood / Great flicks that need great reviews!

Hey folks, as I go through all the reviews I'm finding quite a few that really aren't adequate considering the films and their importance. I'm pulling them as I go, and will replace them once a review worthy of being "on top" is submitted. Also if you see a review on here that just isn't good enough, watch the flick and review it! Which review is on top can change that easily. Anyways, I'd sure love to have some high-quality reviews of these flicks:
Creepshow The Others The Howling The Gate Bloodsucking Freaks The Exorcist Sleepaway Camp Seven Red Dragon Nightmare on Elm St 3: Dream Warriors American Psycho
There will be more to come.

I don't think anyone remembers me much in the forums, because I've never been very active on the boards. I read them when there was a problem or something I had to say, but I'm not a forum person and never was. The forums are not and were never the focus of the site. They're really more of a clubhouse where contributors and a small group of active members met to talk. Not even 10% of our visitors ever entered the forums, they were completely dead in comparison to the reviews and had no effect on traffic at all. 2-3000 people a day come to horrorwatch to read movie reviews written by our group of creative horrorwatchers. Even at our peak, there were maybe 30 members who were very active in the forums. I'm not slamming it, but it's not the center of the site and it's far from the top of my list of priorities on here - although I hurried to get it back online because it's so important to many.
The site is in a bit of a lull, besides all the extra I have to do to get the hacked pages back into HW pages and rebuilding things like forums and search functions, there's also a huge shortage of reviewers. There are only seven or eight people who are still reviewers. I've only had 3 add-on reviews since the hacking (despite the fact that now add-ons will be treated like lead-reviews if they're really good).
This site is for people who love to review movies and want thousands of people to read said reviews. That was the promise all along and it still is. Even at our peak I sometimes held reviews for six weeks. I used them when they best complimented the site, and still do. Right now I only have four reviews in the queue, and I'll use them sparingly and when they're best for the site. That's how it works here. I've never worked on this site to make the members or the reviewers happy, my goal is to make the best review site I can. I have to worry about the thousands of readers, without them we're just a bunch of jerkoffs yapping to no one. We'd be a blog!
Lulls in reviewers has happened several times in the past, some people come and go, some people are part of the Horrorwatch family. I never had to consider whether or not I wanted to keep doing this, I've been doing it all along, just like the other seven has. More than half our reviewers stopped the minute something went wrong. That's fine, this is a labour of love, if it's not fun we shouldn't be doing it, no one's getting paid here. No one needs to feel guilty that they aren't helping, but it really sucks when a couple of you kick us when we're down and working to get up.
I'm not here to put anyone in their place, but anyone who isn't helping to rebuild Horrorwatch, just bitching about how long it's taking others, maybe you should find a quieter place.

General Category / Scrawled in Blood / Reviews needed

Hey folks, I need a good review of the original Halloween. Don't try to write one from memory, I have a few lackluster ones already, only interested in better ones.
Also I'd like to remind people that we do allow people to add reviews to movies that have already been reviewed. Pointing that out because I've only received one "add-on" in about six months, because you're all lazy.
Also "add-ons" are no longer treated as responses to original reviews. Generally the review that seems most impressive goes on top, so if there's a review on here that seems like it was called in, submit a better one and it will be the main review.

Sorry to say, yep. I know it's annoying, but everything's actually going really great for the site. We're now hosted on a brand new server, it has a faster connection, a lot more options, and best of all...
Security provided by professionals!
(also saves me lots of money!)
I had the option of bringing the last forum over, but I've had lots of not-so-glowing comments on Yabb, so I figured better to experiment and find the right one now instead of later when we've really got a lot to lose.
I'm really going for fast and simple, so I'm hoping this is it. I'm going to give it a little time to be played with, then I'll get to work customizing the look to match the rest.
Also for those of you that don't realize it, we are now running on the new site. I'll be adding new features for years to come, ideas are always welcome (PM or email them to me, I spend all my site time working on reformatting and getting all 1,500 of our reviews back online, so I don't much read forums).
